DK Heavy rain: Lightning strike severely damages house in Bantwal, woman hospitalised

Mangaluru, Oct 5, 2026: A house was severely damaged after being struck by lightning during heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Dakshina Kannada district in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred at around 4 am at Aniladadda in Ajjibettu village of Bantwal taluk, where lightning struck the house of Nagesh Kulal.
Nagesh’s wife, Kushala, reportedly fell ill following the incident and was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
The powerful lightning strike caused extensive damage to the house. The roof tiles, doors and window glass panes were shattered in the impact.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed several parts of Dakshina Kannada during the early morning hours, causing damage in the district.
