Moideen Bawa condemns RSS leader’s provocative speech at Samajotsava

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 23, 2012: Referring to the clash between two religious communities following the Hindu Samajotsava held at Uppinangady on January 22 Sunday as an “election stunt” on the part of the RSS, Moideen Bawa, the president of the district unit of the Congress Minority Cell, condemned the provocative speech delivered by RSS chief Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held on Jan 23 Monday.

Stating that Mr. Bhat used “obscene words” while leveling allegations against Muslim and Christian communities, Mr. Bawa demanded to know if the minority members of the BJP fit his descriptions.

Stating that an FIR has been registered against Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, he said that Mr. Bhat should be arrested for his attempts to create communal unrest within the district.

The Congress Minority Cell had called this press meet for the sole purpose of condemning the provocative speeches and the resulting clash between certain groups during the Hindu Samajotsava that was held in Uppinangady. For some time, the area was tense with threats of a communal riot hanging over it.

He said that he had discussed the Hindu Samajotsava with MLA Ramanath Rai and the superintendent of police 4 days before it commenced, and as a result of these discussions, the SP had promised that no provocative speeches will be made at the event.

Speaking about the danger of such provocative statements made in public, Moideen Bawa said that a number of innocent people will suffer in case it leads to a riot. He urged people to maintain unity and peace in society.

Mithun Rai, the Youth Congress leader, and Ashraf, the former mayor, were also present.
