Mescom vigilance raid on Dental College is largest in state: SP Harishchandra

Mangalore, Dec 10, 2013: Mescom vigilance SP Harishchandra said that Manipal College of Dental Sciences and Hospital and Manipal School has been booked and imposed penalty of approximately Rs 3.40 crore for using electricity from KMC Hospital since 2006.


Speaking at the press meet held at Mescom office on Dec10, Tuesday, he said that as per the complaint filed by social worker P S Haneef Saheb of KMC of making use of illegal power supply, the Mescom officials conducted the raid at the Dental College on December 9, Monday.

He also said that the college had started in the year 2006 and the school in the year 2010 and since then, the college and school have taken the unauthorized electricity extension from KMC hospital and has been just paying the hospital bill regularly and has violated the Mescom norms.


SP said that KMC had applied for additional internal load for the hospital in the year 2000, 2006 and 2010 and Mescom had granted the permission, they have misused the additional electricity. Hence Mescom has imposed fine on the basis of contract demand and after several other aspects.


The organization will be given three months time to pay the penalty and if they fail to do so, strict action will be taken against them. They have neither provision to go to the court in this regard. This is the first and largest raid conducted in whole state.


DySP Vinay Gaonkar, Mangalore vigilance inspector Shantharam and assistant executive engineer Seema were present at the press meet.
