Mangaluru Engineer’s Hunger-Detecting Gadget Sparks Curiosity and Laughter Online

Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2025: A young engineer from the city has captured the internet’s imagination with a quirky, humorous and surprisingly clever invention — a device that listens to stomach growls and automatically orders food online.

Sohan M Rai, a tech creator and engineering graduate from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, recently unveiled his invention called MOM (Meal Ordering Module). The gadget, strapped to his belt and connected to a stethoscope he borrowed from his sister, uses a tiny microphone, sound sensor, battery and microcontroller to detect stomach sounds.

When a growl is detected, the device sends the audio to an AI model trained by Rai himself to determine whether it indicates genuine hunger. If confirmed, MOM immediately triggers a food order on Zomato.
In his viral video, Sohan says, “I invented this device which understands when I am hungry and automatically orders food on Zomato.” He even claimed to have spent an entire day without food to learn what real hunger sounds like, helping him fine-tune the model.

Though the setup looks simple, Sohan explained that training the AI and calibrating the sound inputs took considerable effort. He also joked that the device works especially well for him because his stomach “growls loudly” when hungry.
