Karkala: Man kills elder brother over property dispute, arrested

Karkala, May 4, 2026: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his elder brother over a property dispute at Mittabettu Hiriangadi in Karkala on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as local resident Richard D’Souza (65). The police have arrested the accused, his younger brother Herald D’Souza.

Both Richard and Herald D’Souza were residing at Mittabettu Hiriangadi and had an ongoing dispute over their house and land. On May 2, at around 6 pm, a quarrel broke out between the two at the property in Mittabettu Hiriangadi. During the altercation, Herald allegedly assaulted his brother Richard with a wooden log, leading to his death, according to a complaint filed by the deceased’s wife, Jesinta D’Souza.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station. The accused has been taken into custody and produced before the court.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar and other officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Karkala DYSP Vijay Prasad by Karkala Town Police Station in-charge Inspector Azmath Ali, Karkala Rural SI Prasanna M.S., Murulidhar Naik, Karkala Town SI Shivakumar, and staff members Shekhar Naik, Murthy, Ranjith, Srinivas, Mahantesh, Gopalakrishna, Gajnaik, Shashi, and Santosh.
