Mysuru, Oct 21, 2026: The countdown has begun for Jamboo Savari, the finale of Mysuru Dasara celebrations, which will be held on Wednesday on the occasion of Vijayadashami.
The Mysuru district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the procession, which will begin at Mysuru Palace and conclude at Bannimantap, covering a distance of around five kilometres.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the procession by performing puja to the Nandi Dhwaja at the Balarama Gate of the palace during the auspicious time between 1.36 pm and 1.56 pm.
Between 4.10 pm and 4.35 pm, he will offer floral tributes to Goddess Chamundeshwari, seated in the golden howdah (ambari) atop elephant Prashantha, within the palace premises.
Prashantha will carry the 750-kg golden howdah for the first time this year. Abhimanyu, who traditionally carried the howdah, has been relieved of the duty after turning 60, in accordance with a Supreme Court order.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Mysuru-Kodagu MP and member of the royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, and district in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah will participate in the celebrations.
Folk troupes from across Karnataka and tableaux representing various districts and government departments will showcase the state’s traditions, cultural heritage and government achievements.
This year, tableaux from only 15 districts have been permitted. Floats representing the Indian Air Force, Army and Navy are expected to be additional attractions.
Entry into the palace premises to witness Jamboo Savari is restricted to those holding valid tickets, passes or gold cards.
Torchlight Parade and Drone Show
The Bannimantap grounds will host the traditional torchlight parade and a drone show at 7.30 pm.
Newly appointed Governor Sudha Yadav will receive the guard of honour, while Chief Minister Shivakumar and other ministers will participate in the programme. MLA Tanveer Sait will preside over the event.
Wadiyar Takes Out Vijaya Yatre
Continuing the royal tradition, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar held the private durbar, known as Khasagi Durbar, and took out the Vijaya Yatre at around 10 am on Wednesday.
He also performed puja to the Banni tree on the palace premises.
Vajramushti Kalaga
The traditional Vajramushti Kalaga, a wrestling bout between jattis (traditional wrestlers), is another highlight of Mysuru Dasara. However, the event was reportedly delayed due to various reasons.
