Gold medalists in Asian Games, Poovamma, Arshiya Khan honoured

Mangaluru, October 20, 2026: As a part of Mangaluru Dasara celebrations, Mahila Dasara was organised at the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple on Monday. Asian Games Gold medalist and Olympian M R Poovamma inaugurated the programme.

Speaking after the inauguration, Poovamma shared her experiences from her 23-year sporting career and encouraged women to pursue physical activities to maintain their overall well-being.

“I am now 36 years old, and my journey is proof that hard work can help a person achieve success at any age,” she said, adding that women should engage in physical activities as much as possible, as they help maintain both physical and mental fitness.

On the occasion, the temple management felicitated MR Poovamma and Yakshagana artiste Arshiya Khan in recognition of their achievements. Poovamma was also presented with an incentive of Rs 25,000.
