Thumbe Dam Water Level Drops to 4 Metres; MCC Plans Water Rationing

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 3, 2026: The water level at the Thumbe vented dam, the main source of drinking water for Mangaluru city, has dropped steadily due to the lack of pre-monsoon showers and rising summer temperatures. As of May 2, the water level in the dam stood at four metres.

Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath on Saturday urged the Dakshina Kannada district administration to release water from the AMR vented dam on the Netravathi river to the Thumbe dam to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the city and avoid rationing.

In a statement, the MLA said he visited the Thumbe dam on Saturday and observed the declining water level.

Meanwhile, the Mangaluru City Corporation has decided to implement water rationing from May 4, under which drinking water will be supplied to the city on alternate days.

The MCC has already submitted a request to the district administration seeking release of water from the AMR dam to Thumbe, and the process is expected to begin shortly.
