Mangaluru, Sep 15, 2025: MLA for Mangaluru City North Y. Bharat Shetty has sought ₹15 crore to fill potholes on the road in his constituency, and said that he would stage protests if the government did not release the fund immediately.
Mr. Shetty has said in a statement that protests will be held on damaged stretches.
He said that works related to underground drainage, construction of retaining walls, and development of major district roads under his constituency have come to a standstill due to a paucity of fund.
Mr. Shetty said that in addition to the fund needed to fill potholes, ₹5 crore is required for developing the Marakada-Maravoor Road, connecting Mangaluru International Airport, into a concrete road. It required ₹14 crore for developing roads in Baikampady Industrial Area and ₹1 crore is needed for developing the Katipalla-Peddi Angadi Road, he said.
The government should draw funds from calamity relief fund, Public Works Department, and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department to arrange funds.
Mr. Shetty alleged that Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is the Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada, did not have the courtesy to consult with the MLAs over funds required to rectify damages that were caused to properties owing to heavy rains.
The Minister was not bothered to listen to the elected representatives.
