Mangaluru, Oct 24, 2025: For the first time, Mangaluru will host an international-level badminton tournament, the “Mangaluru India International Challenge 2025”. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event on October 27 at the city’s Urva Indoor Stadium.
A pre-event preparation meeting was held on Thursday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the chairmanship of DC Darshan H.V. The officials emphasized that, since this is the district’s first international sporting event, all arrangements must be flawless and the city’s sports infrastructure should meet global standards.
Athletes from India and abroad will participate in the tournament. Authorities directed that high-quality sports and accommodation facilities be provided, and that all technical arrangements inside the stadium be meticulously organized. Adequate facilities must also be ensured for referees and officials.
Parking arrangements have been made at Urva Market for vehicles coming to the stadium. The road from Lady Hill to Urva Market is to be beautified, and waste management should be handled efficiently, the Municipal Corporation was instructed.
A cultural and tourism exhibition and information center will be set up to showcase the district’s heritage. Tourists accompanying athletes should be provided necessary support, according to instructions to the tourism department.
A health center will be set up in the stadium to provide medical facilities to athletes, with sports medicine specialists appointed by the district health authorities. The district administration and the Badminton Association will work in coordination to ensure smooth execution of the event.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mithun H.N., Smart City MD Santosh Kumar, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, President of the South Kanara District Badminton Association Santosh Kumar Shetty, and other officials.
