Mangaluru, Oct 8, 2026: A 75-year-old woman has allegedly been cheated of Rs 2 crore by cyber fraudsters in a ‘digital arrest’ scam. A case has been registered at the Mangaluru Cyber Crime Police Station.

According to the complaint, an unidentified person called the woman on September 25 and introduced himself as an officer from the Colaba Police Station in Mumbai. He allegedly told her that a case had been registered against her for her involvement in money laundering, drug-related activities and child trafficking along with international money laundering accused Naresh Goyal.

The woman was later contacted through a WhatsApp video call by another person who identified himself as CBI officer Samadhan Pawar. He allegedly claimed that a person named Judge Chandrachud would assist her and accused her of involvement in international crimes. The caller also allegedly told her that she was required to comply with a “National Secrets Act” of the Supreme Court.

Fearing the consequences, the woman did not disclose the matter to anyone, according to her complaint. The fraudsters allegedly told her that her bank accounts and property details would be verified and clearance would be issued within two days. They subsequently obtained details of her bank accounts and properties.

After submitting the requested details, the woman transferred Rs 60 lakh initially and another Rs 1.40 crore later to bank accounts specified by the fraudsters between September 25 and October 5, losing a total of Rs 2 crore.

She realised she had been cheated only after informing a friend about the incident, according to the complaint.

Mangaluru Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and are investigating the fraud.
