New Delhi, Oct 9, 2026: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a special leave petition filed by actor Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, challenging the decision to make Pradosh Rao, one of the accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, an approver.
A bench comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Vinod Chandran observed that an accused has no right to challenge the decision to grant approver status to another person.
Senior advocate Nagamutthu, appearing for Darshan, argued that the authority to consider an approver’s statement rests with the principal court and that the trial court does not have such powers.
Rejecting the argument, the bench clarified that the trial court has full authority to record the statement of an approver.
Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for the state government, submitted that the accused had no right to challenge the recording of an approver’s statement. However, he pointed out that the accused were entitled to cross-examine the approver and had been given that opportunity.
