Belthangady: Man dies of electric shock while harvesting arecanuts

Belthangady, Oct 8, 2026: A 38-year-old man died after suffering an electric shock while harvesting arecanuts at Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district.
The deceased has been identified as Nazeer (38), a resident of Ajikuri in Dharmasthala village.
The incident occurred on October 4 when Nazeer was harvesting arecanuts from a tree near his house using a long pole. The pole accidentally came into contact with a nearby overhead power line, resulting in a severe electric shock and serious injuries.
He was immediately taken to a local hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of October 8 after failing to respond to treatment.
A case has been registered at the Dharmasthala police station.
