Mangaluru CCB arrests attempt-to-murder accused after 11 years on the run

Mangaluru, Jul 31, 2026: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a key accused in an attempt-to-murder case who had been absconding for the past 11 years.

The arrested accused has been identified as Santosh S. (34), alias Chunki Akashabhavan, a resident of Karnelli village in Shikaripura taluk of Shivamogga district.

According to police, the incident occurred in 2015 during a pre-wedding ceremony at Akashabhavan in Mangaluru, where a verbal altercation broke out between Ashok Kumar Kottari and another accused, Jaggu. The argument allegedly escalated when Santosh, along with other accused identified as Ranjith, Dhanu, Dhooma, Sweety alias Naresh and Jaggu, attacked Ashok Kumar Kottari with swords, inflicting grievous injuries.

Based on the complaint, Kavoor Police registered an attempt-to-murder case (Crime No. 135/2015) against the accused.

Police said Santosh had been absconding since the day the case was registered. The court had issued an LPC (Long Pending Case) warrant against him in Case No. 25/2025.

After gathering intelligence for an extended period, CCB officers received credible information that the accused was staying in Shivamogga district. Acting on the tip-off, a CCB team traced and arrested him at Chikkerur in Haveri district on July 29.

The accused has since been handed over to the Kavoor Police for further legal proceedings.
