Kundapur: Ayyappa devotee dies in two-wheeler collision during pilgrimage walk

Kundapur, Nov 4, 2025: A devotee undertaking the Ayyappa pilgrimage on foot died after being hit by a speeding two-wheeler from behind near Kannukere, close to Thekkatte in Kundapur taluk. Another devotee was injured in the same incident.

The deceased has been identified as Surendra Mogaveera (35), a resident of Kumbri near Koteshwar. On the early morning of November 2, around 5:30 a.m., a group of about 15 Ayyappa devotees were walking from the Ayyappa Swamy camp towards Mandarthi Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple when a TVS XL moped coming from behind on National Highway 66 hit Surendra and another devotee near Kannukere.


Man dies

Due to the impact, the TVS rider, Surendra, and another devotee fell onto the road and sustained injuries. Surendra suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A case has been registered at the Kota Police Station in connection with the incident.
