Mangaluru, Apr 15, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress staged a protest on Wednesday near Kadri Circle condemning the rise in cooking gas prices and the alleged failures of the BJP-led Central government.
During the protest, Congress workers garlanded an empty gas cylinder, tied it to a bier, and carried it in a mock funeral procession at Kadri Circle to draw public attention. Protesters also displayed gas stoves and empty utensils.

Former minister Ramanath Rai, speaking on the occasion, alleged that due to the failure of the Central government, the country is facing an irregular supply of cooking gas. He said prices of all essential commodities are rising day by day and blamed the Centre’s unclear foreign policy for the situation.
He further stated that the country’s current economic condition is not stable and people are struggling due to price rise. Despite this, he accused BJP leaders of misleading the public with false claims and urged citizens to understand the ground reality. He also alleged that despite continuous price hikes, the Prime Minister is misleading the people.
Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza said that LPG prices in the black market have surged to ₹4,000–₹5,000, leading to a sharp increase in food prices in hotels. He added that autorickshaw drivers are struggling due to the unavailability of LPG and blamed the BJP-led Central government for the situation, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proven to be a weak leader.
