Kasaragod: Young couple dies by suicide after consuming poison

Kasaragod, Oct 7, 2025: A tragic incident occurred at Kadambar under the Manjeshwar police station limits, where a young couple ended their lives by consuming poison. The deceased have been identified as Ajith (35) and his wife Shwetha (27). Ajith worked as a painter, while Shwetha was a private school teacher at the Varkadi Bakery Junction.

The incident took place on Monday. Both were admitted to the Deralakatte hospital in critical condition, where Ajith passed away on Monday night and Shwetha succumbed on Tuesday morning.

Reportedly, earlier that day, Ajith had visited his sister’s house at Bandiyod with his three-year-old son, telling her to take care of the child as he was going elsewhere. After leaving the child there, Ajith and Shwetha are believed to have consumed poison.

Neighbors noticed the couple lying unconscious in the veranda and rushed them to the hospital, but both were declared dead. Preliminary investigations suggest financial difficulties may have driven them to take the extreme step. Manjeshwar police are investigating the case.
