Kadri Park will get facelift along Lal Bagh model – horticulture minister

Mangalore, Jan 23, 2012: S. A. Ravindranath, the state minister for horticulture, who visited Kadri Park on Jan 23 Monday, announced that Rs. 5 crore will be spent on giving the park a face lift by the end of 2012 along the model of Lal Bhag. 


The minister also promised that Rs. 1.6 crore will be spent on soft landscaping, Rs. 66 lakh on ornamental security grills, Rs. 8 lakh on a laterite wall, Rs. 3.1 lakh on a storage tank, and Rs. 50 lakh on illuminations and fountains. He has also promised a bonsai garden and a play area for kids.

In response to a complaint on shortage of seeds at the horticulture department, he said that the department was facing problems because people purchase seeds from private companies.


Admitting that the department is in a pathetic condition, he said that it badly needs an image makeover. He also promised that the greenhouse at the department will soon be repaired. 


Informing that Rs. 753 crore was earmarked for the development of the department during the last budge session, he said that they have requested extra funds of Rs. 2000 crore. 


N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the legislative assembly, and Padmanabha Kottary, the district BJP leader, were also present.
