Justice Nayak inspected the entire hospital and its premises in the company of Dr. Sangamesh, the district medical officer. Speaking about the conditions in the hospital, he said that it is “worse than an open drainage,” especially the conditions near the nurses’ quarters.

Criticizing the drainage system severely, Justice Nayak said that the issue should be resolved at the earliest possible. Calling it a “rotten system” at the end of the inspection, he said that it is the system that needs to be taken to task, not individuals.

Hanumanth Kamath, the president of the Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike (NHV), complained about the lack of medicine and staff at the hospital. He also said that there has been on one in charge of the X-ray Division of the hospital for the past 2 days, forcing patients to take X-rays in private hospitals. He also stated that the hospital lacks insulin, which is essential in the treatment of diabetes.

Mr. Kamath said that even basic cleanliness is not maintained in the hospital and added that the hospital was hastily cleaned when the authorities got a tip regarding Justice Nayak’s visit.
