Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 6, 2012: The minority wing of Janatha Dal (Secular) organized a protest meeting near the DC’s office on Jan 6 Friday, condemning the recent action taken against police officers in Sullia Police Station.

It may be recalled that a couple of police officers in Sullia Police Station were suspended following an incident in which stones were pelted on Sullia Police Station and a number of BJP leaders were arrested in connection with it.

JD (S) activists also protested against the hoisting of the Pakistani flag on a government building at Sindhagi in Bijapur and demanded that immediate action must be taken against the miscreants.

M. G. Hegde, the state secretary of the minority wing of the JD (S), said in his protest address that right-wing organizations have created a sense of fear and insecurity within the community.

Accusing the Sangh Parivar of being responsible for the hoisting of the Pakistani flag in Bijapur, he urged the police to thoroughly investigate various cases of throwing meat in temple and mosque premises, which have become common in coastal Karnataka. He also accused the BJP of transforming DK, which was so far known as an education hub, into a region of communal disturbances.

D. M. Aslam, the district JD (S) president, Secretary Shashiraj Shetty, and other members were also present.
