Gregory Patrao questions: How did MRPL loose 600 crores

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 21: “The Mangalore Refinery Petroleum Ltd. (MRPL) should reveal all the statistical information with respect to the 600 crores loss incurred by the company” said Gregory Patrao in a press meet held here in the city on Wednesday, July 21. He was reacting to the news appeared in local dailies and web pages about the MRPL’s claim of  600 crores loss due to land dispute and consequent delay in the completion of the third phase of expansion.

MRPL had stated that the land dispute with Mr. Gregory Patrao has blocked its expansion programme, resulting in a loss of Rs. 600 crore for the company. Talking about the phase three development, the project is expected to increase MRPL’s refining capacity by an extra 3 million tonnes per annum with a total cost of Rs. 15,000 crore and is expected to be completed by Oct 2011.

Gregory Patrao told the media that mismanagement and malpractice could be the real reason for their loss. It looks like they have swindled Rs 600 crore in various contract works and are trying to blame it on land dispute and land owners. “ MRPL is trying to hush up the matter blaming delay and land dispute” he said.

Gregory asked how the issue of loss came up now. “They could have raised it in the regional commissioner’s meeting held a week back in the DC office. It is a new found salvo to derail the initiative taken by the Chief Minister. The officers of MRPL did not mention about the loss with regional commissioner, who was in the city for investigating atrocities perpetrated by KIADB on me” he added.

’The KIADB had handed over the acquisition certificate to Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited(MSEZL) on April 24, 2007 without my consent. MSZEL had handed over the land to MRPL. Hence, MSZEL, officials are responsible, if MRPL had suffered a loss, he added.

The KIADB officials with their goons had demolished my property even without producing High Court verdict copy. The statements of MRPL regarding loss is aimed at misguiding Chief Minister  S Yeddyurappa, who assured Justice to me, Patrao said.

Every farmer has the interest of National development. So the farmers cultivate and produce the food grains for the people. Over the years my family has contributed nearly  5.54 acres of land for the expansion of Konkan railway and MRPL. But the persons who want me to surrender my land for national development did not contribute to the development of nation.

He also urged the Chairman of ONGC to varify and take a strict action against the officers of MRPL who has given wrong information misleading the public.

Hemalatha Bhat and Madhukar Amin were also present on the occasion.
