Palemar, who is also the minister for ports, stated in a press release that the city’s fisheries port requires additional infrastructure to shelter an increasing number of boats. The jetty is now 603m long and 1,500 boats can be anchored there; it is not sufficient to accommodate all these boats. Therefore, it must be extended by another 502m toward the south. An additional 579m needs to be constructed at Bengre; and the work will commence as soon as the central government approves the project.

The proposed project includes work such as dredging, levelling, revetment construction, traffic zone, fish market, restroom, ship repair shop, gear shed, net mending shed, radio communication, tower, RCC sloping, restaurant, security guard house, electricity supply, public lavatory, drinking water supply, RCC box bridge, rainwater harvesting, and so on, said the minister.
