Belthangady, Jul 31, 2026: A 21-year-old youth who was scheduled to leave for Dubai on Wednesday evening for employment has instead landed in judicial custody after Belthangady police arrested him in connection with a drug trafficking case and seized narcotics worth Rs 15.41 lakh.
The arrested accused has been identified as Twalah alias Ansar (21), a resident of Sunnathkere in Kuvettu village.
According to the police, a team led by Sub-Inspector Anand M. was on routine patrol around 8 p.m. on July 29 when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously near an autorickshaw (KA-18-A-7203) parked in front of a private building at Pilichandikallu in Kuvettu village. On spotting the police vehicle, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended.
During interrogation, Twalah allegedly confessed that he had paid an advance of Rs 20,000 to Hamzath Karar (31) of Aladikottige in Kuvettu village to procure ganja for resale at a higher price. He further stated that Hamzath had arrived in a KA-21-MA-4990 car and handed over 500 grams of ganja, but fled after abandoning the vehicle upon noticing the police.
A search of the abandoned car led to the recovery of 76 grams of MDMA, valued at approximately Rs 7.60 lakh. A search of the accused yielded 20 grams of ganja worth about Rs 1,498, a mobile phone worth Rs 30,000, and other articles valued at Rs 200.
Police seized a total of 20 grams of ganja, 76 grams of MDMA, the KA-21-MA-4990 car, the KA-18-A-7203 autorickshaw, and a mobile phone, with the total value of the seized property estimated at Rs 15,41,698.
A case has been registered at the Belthangady Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(A), and 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Hamzath Karar (31) and Twalah alias Ansar (21). The investigation is underway.
Twalah was produced before the jurisdictional court on July 30, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Ironically, the accused was reportedly preparing to leave for Dubai for a job on the evening of July 30. Instead, he was sent to jail after being arrested in the narcotics case.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Belthangady Sub-Division DySP Rohini C.K. and Circle Inspector Ravi B.S. The raid was led by Sub-Inspector Anand M. and Sikandar Pasha, with the assistance of police personnel Satish Naik, Prakash Poojary, Srinivas, Hanumantha, Nanda, Jagadish Attaje, Pramod, Dundappa Poojary, Srinivas, driver Satish, and SOCO team members Kavyashree and Arpitha.
