District administration ensures adequate water supply to all schools and colleges: DC

Mangaluru, June 08, 2023: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Ravikumar MR, has assured that the district administration has taken measures to ensure the supply of water to all schools and colleges amidst reports of a water crisis faced by educational institutions.

Due to the delayed onset of the monsoon, various parts of Dakshina Kannada are currently experiencing water scarcity, leading the administration to implement water rationing measures.

Addressing the situation, DC mentioned that historically the district received normal rainfall in June. However, this year’s delayed monsoon has caused a drinking water problem in the district. The water level in Thumbe dam has dropped to 1.86m, prompting the release of water from the AMR dam. By this evening, the water level at Thumbe dam is expected to reach 4m.

Over the past two days, the water problem intensified due to pipeline and motor repair works. As a result, there was a two-day interruption in water supply. Some educational institutions faced difficulties, but they were advised to make arrangements for water through their private bore wells. The district administration will also provide assistance in this matter. Moreover, water is being supplied through tankers within the corporation limits to mitigate the issue.

Regarding the rainfall forecast for the next three to four days, the DC stated that a warning has been received indicating rainfall in the district during this period. The administration is well-prepared to handle any potential disasters that may arise.
