Mangalore, June 5, 2014: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists staged a 24-hour dharna in front of DC’s office in Mangalore on June 4, urging for the release of three accused, arrested in connection with Rajesh Poojary murder case.
DYFI, State President Munir Katipalla said at the dharna, that the DYFI will not rely upon the mere assurances by ministers and will carry out protests until proper justice is received for those arrested in connection with the murder of Bajarang Dal activist Rajesh Poojary. The first requirement put forward is the release of those arrested.
Munir katipalla categorically said, the probe in Rajesh Poojary murder case has been mishandled, he claimed that the arrested Hussain, Imran and Irshad did not have any reason to murder anyone as they hailed from poor families and were engaged in daily wage work to earn their living and were only involved with that.
He explained that while one of the arrested was eking out his living by selling products door-to-door, the other was working in a stone quarry and the third had just returned from UAE to his hometown, due to some illness. Also, they were not involved in communal issues at all, Munir added.
In the past too, people were arrested in Polali Ananth murder case randomly. Belthangadi Circle Inspector Lingappa Poojary, who was one among the investigation team officials was dismissed for mishandling a live band case. How one can expect a transparent probe from such officials? he asked . He called upon the authorities concerned to conduct a transparent probe of the case and warned of intensifying the protests if the case is not sensibly proceeded.
District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai who is keeping mum over the issue, must speak up. The police should take proper action to arrest the real culprits and police department should divulge the reason/s of murder in the case of Rajesh Poojary. If justice is not provided in the case, protests will be held in front of district -in-charge minister Ramanath Rai and MLA Mohiyuddin Bava’s residences and offices. “If the people’s representatives don’t respond, we will carry out protest in front of home minister’s residence also and are ready to go to jail,” Munir said and added that hollow assurances only are not desirable and total action is expected.
DYFI district Secretary Dayanand Shetty along with a large number of citizens from Mallur were a part of the protestors.
