DCIB team arrests Chota Shakeels associatesMangalore, July 22: A district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) team arrested two people on July 20, Tuesday on charges of being associated with underworld don Chota Shakeel. They were remanded to judicial custody for 15 days on Wednesday. The DCIB team, under the leadership of Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Narayan Maniyani, kept the arrest a top secret.

The arrested are Aslam alias Aslam Guttal (35) of Haveri and Javed Khan (32) of Kyatamaranahailli, Mysore. The two are allegedly associates of underworld don Chota Shakil. Javed is the chief accused in a criminal case in Bangalore; and Aslam faces four attempt-to-murder cases and those related to illegal possession of arms.

The two had booked a room in a lodge in the city at 11 a.m. on Tuesday saying that they will soon be travelling to Bangalore. Two more people arrived later on. The gang was allegedly acting according to the instructions of Yousuf Khan, who is currently serving a term in Gulbarga Jail. The police said that Basha alias Abdullah, the leader of the gang, and their driver managed to escape. Two knives, a sword, and Rs. 1,44,500 were confiscated by the police.

The police learned that certain inmates of the lodge were receiving information regarding the activities of a youth leader of DK. They suspect that the gang intended to wreck the peace of the district by murdering the leaders of certain organizations.
