The convention was organized by the Mangalore Town Congress Block on Oct 2, Tuesday.

Stating that the Congress party requires honest workers and not those who keep changing political parties with the intention of grabbing power, he urged workers to inculcate the ideals of Gandhi and solve the problems of the needy.

Blaming CM Jagadish Shettar for the present Cauvery crisis, he said that the state government has failed to find a proper solution to the water distribution problem. Stating that the chief minister ought not to have staged a walk out from the prime minister’s meeting, he said that the CM ought to have convinced the PM of the seriousness of the situation. The state government failed to fight for the state both in the Supreme Court and before the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), he said.

He promised the people of Mangalore that, if they vote the Congress to power in the next elections, the party will reduce property tax under the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS).

Speaking on the occasion, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the state government has neglected state development; instead, it has spent most of its time in power fighting over its internal differences.

Speaking about the benefits of permitting FDI in retail sector, Sorake said that the farmers will chiefly benefit by this as they can sell their products without middlemen.

Owing to the rains, attendance at the convention was poor.
