Coastal belt likely to record above normal rainfall: Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar

Mangaluru, May 12, 2025: Minister in-charge of Udupi district, Laxmi Hebbalkar, on Sunday, instructed the Udupi district administration to take all precautionary measures to face the monsoon as the coastal belt is likely to record above normal rainfall.

Speaking at a meeting called by her to review the monsoon preparedness, the Minister said that the administration should take steps required to prevent loss of life and property. It includes cutting trees which are likely to pose threat to the life of people.

The Minister instructed that the under-construction foot bridges in the district should be completed at the earliest. The government had released ₹ 8 crore for them, she said.

She said the government will release funds for the maintenance of electric poles and other works required during the monsoon.

The Minister asked the administration to constitute a task force to manage emergency situations and respond to the needs of people.  

She instructed the officials to inspect the safety of all anganwadis, school buildings and electric poles before the monsoon. In all, three villages are facing drinking water issues, and they should be addressed, she said.  

She distributed laptops to the students who scored highest marks in the SSLC examination this year. The government facilities to beneficiaries were also distributed on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari, Superintendent of Police K. Arun and Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Pratheek Bayal were present.
