Mangalore, April 9: Karnataka Christian Union and various welfare associations condemned recent raids by Bajrang Dal and attack on Social workers and Christian welfare organizations in a press meet held in Mangalore, on April 9

Addressing media persons, social activist and corporator, Mariamma Thomas condumned the raids conducted by BJP and Bajrang Dal activists in the past few days. She said that when the Christian community has not fully recovered from the church attacks of September 2008 and various other atrocities perpetrated by Hindu fanatics, false allegations of forcible conversion are being leveled against and false cases are being registered against Christian social activists, entrepreneurs, social work organizations, and orphanages.


She added that, during the past 15 days, four such incidents have taken place and have leveled false allegation of forcible conversion against many welfare organizations, The raid on Ebenezer Ashram in Haleyangadi, Ashraya orphanage run by Lancelot Pinto and the attack on the children of Stella Maris Orphanage are a few incidents that is to be seen as serious offences.

She asserted that certain individuals belonging to the Bajrang Dal and BJP are terrorizing social workers and welfare organizers managed by the Christian community in Dakshina Kannada district.  She questioned the authority of Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits to take law into their hand and unleash terror in the society. She said that the Christian community and other like-minded organizations condemn such anti-social activities and communal forces in society.


Mariamma Thomas accused Asha Nayak, Shakunthala Gowda, and Shyamala of the Woman and Child Welfare Development of supporting the Bajrang Dal and of unlawfully conducting raids on Christian social welfare organizations and registering false cases against them. Urging the state government to protect all minority social welfare organizations and safeguard law and order, she demanded immediate action to be taken against all anti-social and communal elements like Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits

She also announced that Christian organizations and other social welfare organizations have decided to organize a mass protest in front of the DC’s office on April 11, Monday at 4:00 p.m. to raise their voices against atrocities on minorities and the poor people who provide education, shelter, and food for the economically backward children.

Ahinda President Vasudev Boloor, Social worker Suresh Shetty, JPUCL President Melville Pinto, District Convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samithi Krishnananda D., CITU District Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal, Krishnappa Salian of the Karnataka Regional Farmers’ Association, Catholic Sabha Vice President Nizel Periera, Karnataka Christian Association’s International Union State Convener Denis D’Silva, and Dalit Sangharsh Committee District Convener S. P. Anand were also present at the press conference.
