CITU protests against poor medical services at ESI Hospital

Mangalore, Jul 2: The district unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest against the irregularities within ESI Hospital and the irresponsible behavior of its staff and demanded better medical facilities.

A protestor disclosed that the medical services provided by the hospital are of poor quality. The hospital does not even send the ambulance when patients in need call for it; instead it provides lame excuses about the unavailability of drivers for the ambulance. The doctors refuse to treat patients brought to the ESI hospital and send them to Wenlock Hospital, said the protestor.

The government-run ESI Hospital is meant for labourers. A percentage of the labourers’ salary goes for the provision of medical facilities at ESI Hospital in spite of which the services provided are inadequate, said another protestor.

The members of the CITU and the labourers submitted a petition to the hospital officials to take the required steps to solve the issues.
