All three facilities were inaugurated at a function held here on Saturday. Coastal Development Authority (CDA) chairman B Nagaraj Shetty inaugurated the Cathlab, while eminent Neurologist and former dean of KMC, Mangalore Dr. K R Shetty inaugurated the 1.5 Tesla 18 Channel MRI and Dr. Muktha R Pai, HOD, Pathololgy, KMC Mangalore inaugurated the Components Blood Bank.

The Digital Cathlab, an upgraded version with flat digital panel, is used for the life saving procedures. It is helpful in reducing the complications and ensuring the optimal results, while minimising the radiation level.

The 1.5 Tesla 18 Channel MRI takes much faster than the previous MRI and enables scanning to be done within ten minutes. This device can scan the entire spine at one time and also accurately diagnose metabolites in the diseases.

The Component Blood Bank helps conservation of scare resources and helps to give the patients only what they require instead of over loading them with various components.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. K R Shetty observed that the medical technology has achieved great strides in the last five decades. However, he adviced the doctors to use the modern equipment only when it is essential. He called upon the medical fraternity to emulate the Western countries, where both doctors and hospital managements are actively engaged in research.

In his address Nagaraj Shetty announced that the state government plans to collaborate with the private hospitals and medical institutes to improve the conditions at public hospitals and primary health centres in the state. A scheme has been introduced to provide quality medical facilities to the public at Public Health Centres under public private partnership, he said.

A.J. Shetty, Chairman of the hospital and Dr. Prashanth Marla, Medical Director were present during the inauguration ceremony.
