Puttur, Oct 9: Eight resolutions were passed for the preservation and promotion of Tulu language and culture at the valedictory ceremony of the Akhila Bharat Tulu Sammelana held on Oct 8 Saturday.
Some of the resolutions were the building of a Tulu University in Udupi, the inclusion of Tulu under the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution, the naming of the Bangalore – Karwar train as Rani Abbakka train, the naming of Mangalore Airport as Tulunadu Airport, the introduction of Tulu classes for children studying in VI to X standards, and the preservation of places such as Parmale, Pajaka, Kellapatthage, Bakur, Thodikana, Bendra Theertha, and Maravanthe.
Delivering the valedictory address, Erya Laxminarayana Alva said that, with Dr. Veerendra Heggade in the lead, the Tulu people’s dream of getting Tulu included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution will definitely be realized.
During the occasion, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade announced that there will be no separate Vishwa Tulu Sammelana this time because the Akhila Bharata Tulu Sammelana is a continuation of the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan.
Master Vithal Shetty, Vijayakumar Kodialbail, Shrinivas Rao Pailoor, Harish B. Karkera, Malar Jayaram Rai, Bellare Vishwanath Rai, Bannanje Babu Amin, Ashwathapura Baburaya Achar, Girish Bharadwaj, P. N. Achar, Prof. Mudambaddithaya, and others were honored on the occasion.
The event comprised grand processions, 5 seminars on Tulu language and culture, a poets’ meet, an exhibit of drawings by P. N. Achar, folk dance presentations, presentations of Paddana and Shobhanas, a performance by Those Pushkala Kumar, and others.
Scholars such as Dr. Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, A. V. Navuda, Dr. Madhava Peraje, K. Kamalaksha, Dr. Rajashree, Abhaya Kumar, Dr. Poovappa Kaniyoor, Siddakatte Vishwanath Shetty, and others participated in the seminars and debates.
