Belthangady, Jul 7, 2026: In view of the heavy rainfall that has lashed the taluk over the past few days, the Forest Department has temporarily banned trekking to Gadayikallu from July 8 to ensure the safety of visitors.
According to a statement issued by the Wildlife Division of the Belthangady Forest Department, continuous rainfall has made the Gadayikallu trekking trails slippery and hazardous, posing a serious risk to trekkers. As a precautionary measure, trekking has been suspended until further notice.
The department said the ban is likely to be lifted once weather conditions improve and the trekking routes are inspected and found safe for visitors.
The Gadayikallu trekking season began on June 1, but was suspended after a few days due to adverse weather. Trekking was resumed on June 25 after conditions improved. However, with heavy rains returning, the department has once again imposed a temporary ban on trekking from July 8.
