50 witnesses have identified Abdul Samad Bhatkal: Investigators

Mangalore, May 27:  Investigators have revealed that the waiter of the German Bakery, Paras Rimal, and Pravin Pant, the cashier, will appear as star witnesses against Abdul Samad Zarar alias Samad Bhatkal, who allegedly planted the bomb. Samad was arrested when he alighted at Mangalore Airport on Monday. 

 

 

On Wednesday, investigators said that they had recorded statements of at least 50 witnesses, who claim to have spotted Samad at the German Bakery on the fateful day of the blast. The witnesses have identified Bhatkal from images captured on the CCTV near the counter of the bakery as well as from photographs of Bhatkal shown to them.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Yakub, uncle of Mohammed Samad claimed that Samad Bhatkal was with his uncle Yakub, when Pune blast was occurred. Abdul Samad is an innocent. He has nothing to do with Pune blasts or arms smuggling, he adds

He further added that Abdul Samad doesn’t have any criminal background and he was not involved in criminal case also. He is being victimized by the Anti Terror Squad.

‘Pune blast occurred on February 13 and Abdul Samad was busy in a marriage in his families since February 8. "According to our custom, the wedding celebrations are for eight days and we have evidence to prove that Samad was in Bhatkal at the time of the blast," Yakub said
