Eyewitnesses said a girl who was staying  in one of the houses on hearing the crashing sound, rushed outside and alerted neighbours  who plunged into the rescue operations. It is learnt, there were a total of nine persons in the house of whom four died. Another house nearby was also damaged while the house where the tragedy occurred was totally razed to the ground.

It is learnt, residents of the locality had earlier complained to the DC as well as the local panchayat against raising the compound wall. As there  was no outlet for the rain water, it resulted in the weakening of the compound wall leading to its collapse, locals said.

It is learnt, the  local panchayat had told the residents that the panchayat had not permitted the compound wall.

Home Minister KJ George, state ministers Ramanatha Rai, Abhayachandra Jain and Deputy Commissioner N Prakash have rushed to the spot.

The Home minister said a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh would be provided to the affected family and all assistance will be provided. The affected families will be shifted to the second floor of the Panchayat building which is vacant, the minister said.
