Women of Mangalore observe Raksha Bandhan with fire personnel

Mangaluru, August 31, 2026: Women of Mangalore, in association with Lions Club Cauvery and Mangalore Ladies Circle 82, observed Raksha Bandhan with the personnel of the Mangaluru Unit of Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services at Pandeshwar Fire Station, Mangaluru on Friday, August 28.

A total of 55 men and two women fire personnel and 43 women participated in the programme. The Rakhis symbolised the traditional bond of love and protection, reflecting the role of fire personnel in protecting people during calamities and hazardous situations.

“The programme was organised to honour these unsung heroes whom we do not see every day, yet who protect us every day,” said Sabrina Britto Hougaard, founding member of Women of Mangalore, who organised the event on behalf of the organisation.

The programme began with a brief presentation by the Fire and Emergency Services department on the range of services provided to citizens. The handmade Rakhis were prepared by members of the Needlework and Craftwork Circle of Mangalore, an associate of Women of Mangalore.

Shankar M., Regional Fire Officer, Mangaluru Range and In-Charge Chief Fire Officer, Mangaluru Zone, presented a memento to the organisers as a token of gratitude. It was accepted by Rohini Salian, renowned advocate and public prosecutor for the State of Maharashtra. Dr Kalpana Ashfaque of Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 compered the programme.
