Hubballi, Oct 23, 2026: A 38-year-old woman died after a kite manja cut her throat while she was riding a scooty near Shivashankar Colony on Karwar Road in Hubballi on Thursday.
The deceased, Vidya Manjunath Goudar, was working as a lab technician, police said.
The incident occurred while she was on her way to work. The manja string got entangled around her neck, causing her to lose control of the two-wheeler and fall to the road.
She suffered excessive bleeding and died before she could be taken to a hospital, the police added.
Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase stated that those who use manja threads would be booked for endangering public life.
Special teams have been formed to remove manja thread hanging from trees and electric poles, as they are a threat to the life of bike riders and pedestrians, he said.
Citizens are requested to inform ’112’ if they find hanging manja threads or someone flying kites with them, the commissioner said.
