Udupi, Oct 22, 2026: A human skull and skeletal remains were found in bushes near a private apartment complex at Ananth Nagar 3rd Cross on Wednesday, prompting Manipal police to launch an investigation.

The remains were discovered by labourers who were clearing grass and bushes on a vacant plot adjacent to the apartment complex. During the work, they noticed a skull and several bones lying in the area and alerted the police at around 4 pm.

Police personnel arrived at the spot and conducted a detailed search, recovering a partial skull without a jaw, a separate lower jawbone, six ribs, two arm bones, a thigh bone (femur), neck vertebrae and several smaller bone fragments.

The skeletal remains are suspected to be around one year old. The police collected the bones and sent them to a forensic science laboratory for detailed examination.

The discovery has raised questions about how the remains ended up at the location. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether the bones were dumped at the site or brought there from elsewhere.

Manipal police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. The forensic examination report is awaited.
