Udupi, Jan 12, 2014: Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that two persons have been arrested in Hebri of Udupi district in connection with the murder of BJP leader and entrepreneur R.N.Naik at Ankola recently. The IGP said both the arrested are aides of underworld don Bannanje Raja.

The arrests were made on January 11, Saturday night and the accused have been identified as Ambaji Bundagar of Bijapur and Ganesh of Edu village in Karkala. Interrogations of the accused is underway, the IGP said adding it has been gathered that the two had secured a supari for Rs 2 lakhs to kill Naik. The IGP also said there is a suspicion that two convicts namely Hachangi Mahesh and Santosh who are undergoing imprisonment in the Mysore jail might have conspired to eliminate Naik.
Reddy further said after Naik’s killing Raja had telephoned media and claimed responsibility for the murder.
RN Naik was shot at by four assailants near the Ankola bus stand on December 21. He had died on way to hospital.
One of Naik’s gunman too had died in an exchange of fire with the assailants. Locals had trapped one of the assailants soon after the crime.
RN Naik was also the chairman of Dwaraka Co-operative Society.
