10th Floodlit Koti Chennayya Jodukere Kambala held at Ontikatte

Moodbidri, Jan 22, 2012: Vedamurthi Ishwar Bhat, the managing trustee of Alangar Shri Badagu Mahalingeshwar Temple; Fr. Basil Vas, the parish priest of Alangar, and E. M. Shafi Saheb of Puttige jointly declared the 10th Floodlit Koti Chennayya Jodukere Kambala open at Veerarani Samskriti Grama at Kadalakere Nisarga Dhama at Ontikatte on Saturday. 

Kuldip M., the ruling family scion of Moodubidri, presided over the event. 

 

Fr. Basil Vas also inaugurated the adjudicator’s gallery, which was constructed by Chandrahas Sanil and Chethan in memory of Sadhu Sanil, their late father. Around Rs. 2 lakh was spent on constructing this gallery. 

The team of Radha Kalyana, a Kannada serial telecast on Zee TV, helped release the buffaloes into the water. 

Earlier, the owners of the buffaloes offered prayers at the Ayyappa Temple in Ontikatte after which they brought their animals to the venue in a colorful procession. 

Dignitaries such as MLA K. Abhayachandra Jain, the president of the Kambala Committee; Treasurer Bhaskar S. Kotian; General Secretary K. Gunapala Kadamba; Ratnakar Devadiga; Suresh Kotian, the chairman of the standing committee; P. K. Thomas and Koragappa; Ratnakar C. Moily, Suresh Prabhu, Chandrahas Sanil, and Premnath Marla, the members of the organizing committee; Tahsildar Muralidhar; Mohan Bhat, the president of the Rotary Club; Rasika Kambli, the president of the Inner Wheel; and many others were present. 

Four tourists from England, Australia, and New Zealand were interested spectators.
