Puttur, Jan 11, 2026: Farmers in the Keyyuru village limits of Puttur taluk, already reeling under heavy crop losses caused by wild elephants, are now facing a fresh threat from wild bison (gaur) over the past few days.

Herds of wild bison have been straying into agricultural fields in the Kaniyaru, Pallathadka, Ilanthaje, Kengudelu, Keyyuru and Balakka areas, causing damage to standing crops. The menace of wild boar has also increased alongside the bison movement, further aggravating the situation.
According to villagers, wild bison have destroyed areca nut saplings, banana plants and coconut saplings. Residents have also reported sightings of wild bison along roadsides even during daytime, raising concerns over both crop safety and public safety.
