Mangaluru, June 7, 2026: Overcoming the challenge of losing his vision during childhood, 22-year-old Voleti Sai Asrith has graduated in Chemical Engineering from NITK Surathkal and secured a management trainee position in a public sector undertaking (PSU).
A native of Mangaluru with roots in Visakhapatnam, Asrith is the son of MRPL employee Ravichandra Voleti and homemaker Venkata Krishnaveni. He gradually lost his eyesight while studying and began relying on scribes for examinations during his school years.

Joining NITK in 2022, Asrith received extensive support from his family, classmates and faculty members. The institute facilitated academic accommodations, including scribes, enabling him to successfully complete his course.
Asrith credited his peers and professors for their constant encouragement and academic assistance. “My classmates never treated me differently, and my professors were always supportive,” he said.
According to Prof. Keyur Raval, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Asrith was the first completely blind undergraduate student in the department. His admission led to several support mechanisms being introduced to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
Faculty members praised Asrith’s determination and eagerness to learn, describing his achievement as an inspiring example of perseverance and collective support.
