Delhi police crack down on Parliament protest violence; 4 fIRs filed, CCTV footage scanned

Delhi, Jul 21, 2026: The Delhi Police has intensified the crackdown over violence and unrest during the protests amid the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, with registering at least four FIRs while preparing to file more in connection with the massive ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday.

Authorities have initiated legal action against unidentified persons following Monday’s clashes in Connaught Place, even as the protest movement signalled it would continue pressing its demands through negotiations with the Centre on day 2.

According to the police, one of the FIRs has been registered over the unauthorised flying of a drone in the New Delhi district during the Parliament session. The second FIR has been registered on charges of criminal conspiracy to incite violence, with investigators claiming to have gathered significant evidence during the probe.

Two additional FIRs have been lodged for allegedly obstructing public servants from performing their duties, assaulting police personnel and damaging public property. Police said two more FIRs will be registered for offences related to assault, taking the law into one’s own hands and other provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

An FIR has been registered at the Parliament Street Police Station in connection with the protest march led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, 1959, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

The allegations include unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal conspiracy, assault on public servants, obstruction of official duty and damage to public property.

As part of the investigation, Delhi Police is relying extensively on digital evidence. As per the police, they have collected over 250 videos, including mobile recordings, CCTV footage, drone camera footage, and footage from police body-worn cameras to identify those involved in the violence.

Investigators are also examining whether any of the accused have prior criminal records and whether the violence was pre-planned. The probe will look into allegations that stone-pelting, vandalism, attacks on police personnel and damage to police vehicles were carried out in an organised manner. Police are also investigating whether WhatsApp or Telegram groups were used to mobilise or incite people before the violence.

CJP Protest

On Monday, The CJP called for a massive ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest where thousands of protesters marched towards Parliament demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

The protest witnessed clashes, tear gas shelling, allegations of excessive force by police, counter-allegations of violence by protesters, detentions, and widespread disruption across central Delhi. Political leaders across party lines weighed in as Parliament proceedings were repeatedly disrupted over the issue.

Police said protesters allegedly pelted stones at a police team near Regal Cinema in the Outer Circle of Connaught Place during Monday’s demonstration.

Meanwhile, the CJP has claimed that its movement has achieved a breakthrough following a delegation meeting with Union Minister JP Nadda. He added that the invitation for discussions itself represented a major victory for the movement and said the government had assured the delegation that their demands would be examined before responding.
