Belthangady: Auto driver arrested under POCSO act for raping 16-year-old minor

Belthangady, Jul 21, 2026: The Belthangady police have arrested an accused in connection with the rape of a minor girl, which resulted in her becoming pregnant.

The police identified the arrested accused as Shubharaj (28), a resident of Uppinangady.

Rape case

According to the complaint, Shubharaj, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver, enticed a 16-year-old college student from Belthangady, forcibly raped her, and threatened her with dire consequences.

The incident came to light when the minor girl complained of stomach pain. Her mother took her to the hospital for an examination, where it was discovered that the girl was pregnant. Based on a complaint lodged by the mother, a case was registered under the POCSO Act on July 18.

Following an investigation, the Belthangady police arrested Shubharaj at Putrabail in Laila village on the evening of July 19. After questioning, he was produced before the Mangaluru POCSO Court on July 20, which remanded him to judicial custody.
