Mangaluru, Sep 7, 2025: A vision document has been submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposing to transform Mangaluru into a ‘Global Knowledge Capital’ by 2035.
Former KPCC secretary S. Mohanadass Hegde, who presented the plan, said the initiative aims to position the coastal city as a hub of world-class education, cutting-edge research, digital innovation, and knowledge tourism while celebrating local languages and culture.
Key proposals include upgrading Mangalore University to global standards, creating Global Research Parks with NITK Surathkal and private institutions, setting up Tulu-Kannada AI labs, and launching the Mangaluru Innovation Fund for startups. Knowledge campuses are also planned at Moodbidri, Surathkal, and Ullal.
If implemented, the plan envisions attracting one lakh international students, generating over one lakh jobs, securing top-300 global university ranking for Mangalore University, and fostering 500 international research collaborations by 2035, Hegde said.
