Mangalore, Nov 21, 2011: The official website of the Devadiga community, www.devadiga.com, was re-launched as part of its tenth anniversary in Devadiga Samaja Bhavan belonging to the Karnataka Rajya Devadiga Sangha in Mannagudde on Nov 20. 


Dr. Veerappa Moily, the former chief minister of Karnataka and union minister for corporate affairs, inaugurated the event.

Later, Prashanth of the Devadiga community spoke about the website. B. G. Mohandas, the creator of the original website, delivered the welcome address and stated that the website has the objective of motivating the educating Devadiga youth and to work for the progress of the community. Mr. Mohandas has single-handedly maintained www.devadiga.com for nearly 10 years. 


The website provides the latest news related to the community, highlights eminent personalities in the community, educates Devadiga youth on the community’s culture, traditions, and festivals, and encourages fresh talent. 


B. G. Mohandas and Yashoda Mohandas then honored Dr. Moily and his wife Malathi Moily with shawls, mementos, and fruits. Vaman Maroly and Veni Maroly then honored District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar with shawls, fruits, and memento.


In his address, Dr. Moily said that the people should build the nation with dedication and determination. He also said that the Devadigas are direct descendants of Lord Parashurama and are known for their service in temples. Today, members of the Devadiga community are offering a wide range of services all over the world and many of them are even entrepreneurs. He also urged the members of the community to grab all the opportunities available to them. 


 Dr. Moily later felicitated achievers from the community with shawls.


A cultural presentation was part of the event. 


Some of the eminent personalities present were Dr. B. S. Sherigar, the former vice chancellor of Kuvempu University; Dr. K. V. Devadiga, the eminent neurosurgeon; and Dr. K. Devaraj, the principal of SDM College of Management.
