Mangaluru: Gulf-returned man found dead in lodge days after sister’s suicide

Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2026: In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old man who had returned from the Gulf following the death of his sister by suicide was found hanging in a lodge room in Maravoor under the Bajpe police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Arjun Mahesh (24), son of Mahesh, a resident of Mukood in Pallikkara, Bekal, Kerala.

Arjun’s sister, Aija R. Mahesh, had died by suicide in June while staying at a coaching centre hostel. She was reportedly preparing for the NEET re-examination following the controversy over the question paper leak. She was said to have been under severe mental stress.

After learning about his sister’s death, Arjun had returned home from the Gulf before subsequently going back to work.

On Sunday, Arjun arrived in Mangaluru by flight from the Gulf and reportedly told his friends that he was returning home. He also spoke to his mother on Sunday afternoon but did not inform her that he would not be coming home.

Later, when his friends informed the family, relatives tried to contact Arjun, but his phone was found switched off. Concerned family members came to Mangaluru and began searching for him.

On Monday afternoon, Arjun was found hanging inside a lodge room in Maravoor.

Bajpe police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

The deaths of two young siblings from the same family within a short span have left their family and the local community deeply shocked. Bajpe police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances and reason behind Arjun’s death.
