Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2026: A railway pointsman’s alertness and quick action saved the life of an elderly passenger who accidentally fell onto the tracks while attempting to board a moving train at Surathkal Railway Station on Monday.
The incident occurred when the train, travelling from Mumbai towards Mangaluru, had stopped at Surathkal station. An elderly passenger got down from the train and went to a shop at the station. By the time he returned, the train had started moving.
The passenger, who had accidentally left behind an item he had purchased at the shop, rushed to retrieve it and attempted to board the moving train. However, he lost his balance and fell onto the tracks, narrowly escaping being run over by the train.
Railway pointsman Sandeep Naik, who was on duty at the time, noticed the incident and immediately rushed to the spot. He pulled the elderly man away from the moving train and helped him to safety.
Sandeep Naik’s presence of mind and swift action saved the passenger’s life and averted a potentially fatal accident. His bravery and timely intervention have been widely appreciated by railway officials and the public.
