Mangalore, April 3, 2012 :Mangalore Central Railway Station will have to wait for an indefinite period of time before it can get upgraded to meet international standards. Simultaneously, he assured reporters that efforts will be made to convince the house of the importance of upgrading the Mangalore Central Railway Station. He also pointed out that all the proposals related to the Mangalore Central Railway Station have been set aside as Mangalore comes under Palghat Division and is not a separate division. The MP suggested that Mangalore must be linked either to the Hubli or Mysore division to begin with and later separated as there is no coordination between Palghat Division, Konkan Division, and Mysore Division.

He also said that Rights Company is supposed to handle the survey for the construction of railway lines under the Jeppu Mahakalipadpu road, adding that Rs. 2.5 lakh has been released for this purpose. The company, however, is not conducting the survey, owing to which a notice will be issued and legal action will be taken if the survey does not begin in 5 days, he said.

Speaking about artificial flooding in Kenjar because of railway track widening, the MP said that the railway department has been asked to do the necessary repairs before the monsoons. He also said that the proposal to four-lane NH48 under the Padil Railway Overbrige has already been submitted and it is in the process of being sanctioned.

The construction of the foot overbridge at Bantwal Railway Station has also been implemented, he said, adding that work has commenced on the construction of the 4th platform at Mangalore Central Railway Station.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat said that the proposal to widening the Garoday to Kankanady Railway Station Road to shorten the distance to the railway station by 2km is being considered.

During the meeting, the members of the Railway Commuters’ Forum complained that cleanliness was not maintained in the Kabaka – Puttur train, that the Kankanady Railway Station lacks water, that people throw waste on the tracks at the Central Railway Station, that there were no lights in the Kankanady Railway Station, and so on.
