Union government releases Rs 64 cr for highway projects in DK, says Captain Brijesh Chowta

Mangaluru, Apr 18, 2026: The Union government has sanctioned ₹64 crore for various national highway development projects in Dakshina Kannada, said Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta said on Friday.

Giving details of the fund allocation, he said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sanctioned ₹34.53 crore for the maintenance works of about 20 km of stretch of the NH-73 from B.C. Road to Punjalakatte. In addition, the stretch from B.C. Road Junction to Sri Narayana Guru Mandir on the same highway leading towards Bantwal is currently pending for widening. In all, ₹22.59 crore has been allocated for the development of this stretch as a four-lane highway.

Similarly, ₹6.92 crore has been allocated for the maintenance work of Charmadi Ghat on the NH 73 and B.C. Road Junction, Capt. Chowta said in a statement.

All the three works will commence soon, he said.

When the development works of these important highways in the district are completed, it will give a new impetus to the smooth movement of traffic and economic progress of the region, he said.

The MP said that he will thank the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for allocating funds.
Ujjire-Dharmasthala-Periyashanti road project

Capt. Chowta said the work of upgrading Ujire-Dharmasthala-Periyashanti highway as a two-lane road at a cost of about ₹613.665 crore is also in full swing.
